III. Conclusion
The relationship of Portugal with Japan goes back to the XVI century.
The consequences of this encounter of cultures between Portugal and Japan was their economical progress and cultural intercourse.
The main purpose of this thesis, besides giving the overall role of foreign direct investment (FDI) to Portugal’s economic development, is concerned with Japanese investments in Portugal and its overseas territories in the broad context of Portugal and Japan’s bilateral and GATT trade relations.
It also investigates the consequences of Portugal’s accession to the EEC and its implications for its economic relations with Japan until 1999. In so doing, it aims to draw greater attention to the economic and political relations, between Portugal and Japan in the aftermath of the II World War that until now rarely have been studied in Portugal or outside of it. |
